A rare and powerful Western Disturbance has created a 1,000-km linear rain band stretching from Afghanistan through Pakistan deep into the Indian heartland. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a widespread alert for March 21, 2026 — covering Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, J&K, Uttarakhand and several other states — warning of heavy rain, hailstorms and gusty winds reaching 40–60 km/h. Weather experts point to a powerful Western Disturbance — stretching from northern Pakistan to south-west Madhya Pradesh — as the primary driver. This system has created a rare 1,000-km linear rain band from Afghanistan through Pakistan deep into the Indian heartland. Successive Western Disturbances are interacting with local cyclonic circulations over Haryana and troughs across Rajasthan, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh.

Experts are calling these extreme weather swings — from 4–7°C above normal early-March heat to sudden hailstorms — symptoms of a "disappearing spring" driven by broader climate volatility.
