ਭਾਰਤ ਦੇ ਸੜਕੀ ਬੁਨਿਆਦੀ ਢਾਂਚੇ (Road Infrastructure) ਨੂੰ ਆਧੁਨਿਕ ਬਣਾਉਣ ਵੱਲ ਇੱਕ ਇਤਿਹਾਸਕ ਕਦਮ ਚੁੱਕਦੇ ਹੋਏ, ਨੈਸ਼ਨਲ ਹਾਈਵੇਅ ਅਥਾਰਟੀ ਆਫ਼ ਇੰਡੀਆ (NHAI) ਨੇ ਗੁਜਰਾਤ ਵਿੱਚ NH-48 ਦੇ ਸੂਰਤ-ਭਰੂਚ ਸੈਕਸ਼ਨ 'ਤੇ ਚੋਰਾਸੀ (Chorayasi) ਟੋਲ ਪਲਾਜ਼ਾ ਵਿਖੇ ਦੇਸ਼ ਦਾ ਪਹਿਲਾ ਮਲਟੀ-ਲੇਨ ਫ੍ਰੀ ਫਲੋ (MLFF) ਬੈਰੀਅਰ-ਮੁਕਤ (ਬਿਨਾਂ ਰੁਕਾਵਟ) ਟੋਲਿੰਗ ਸਿਸਟਮ ਸਫਲਤਾਪੂਰਵਕ ਲਾਂਚ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ।
In a landmark step towards modernizing India’s road infrastructure, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has successfully launched the country’s first Multi-Lane Free Flow (MLFF) barrier-less tolling system at the Chorayasi Toll Plaza on the Surat–Bharuch section of NH-48 in Gujarat.
ਕੇਂਦਰੀ ਸੜਕੀ ਆਵਾਜਾਈ ਅਤੇ ਰਾਜਮਾਰਗ ਮੰਤਰੀ ਨਿਤਿਨ ਗਡਕਰੀ ਨੇ ਇਸਦੀ ਸ਼ੁਰੂਆਤ ਦਾ ਐਲਾਨ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਇਸਨੂੰ ਭੀੜ-ਮੁਕਤ (Congestion-free) ਰਾਸ਼ਟਰੀ ਰਾਜਮਾਰਗ ਬਣਾਉਣ ਦੀ ਦਿਸ਼ਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਇੱਕ ਵੱਡਾ ਮੀਲ ਪੱਥਰ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਹੈ। ਇਸਦੇ ਸੰਚਾਲਨ ਦੇ ਪਹਿਲੇ ਹੀ ਦਿਨ (1-2 ਮਈ, 2026), 41,500 ਤੋਂ ਵੱਧ ਵਾਹਨ ਬਿਨਾਂ ਕਿਸੇ ਭੌਤਿਕ ਰੁਕਾਵਟ (Physical barriers) ਦੇ ਪਲਾਜ਼ਾ ਤੋਂ ਆਸਾਨੀ ਨਾਲ ਲੰਘੇ।
Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari announced the rollout, calling it a major milestone in creating seamless, congestion-free national highways. On its very first day of operation (May 1-2, 2026), over 41,500 vehicles passed through the plaza smoothly without any physical barriers.

MLFF is an advanced, fully automated toll collection technology that eliminates the need for vehicles to stop at toll plazas. Unlike the current FASTag system (which still requires slowing down or stopping at gantries), MLFF allows vehicles to maintain highway speeds while tolls are deducted automatically.

NH-48 'ਤੇ ਇਹ ਪਾਇਲਟ ਪ੍ਰੋਜੈਕਟ ਆਉਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਸਮੇਂ ਦੀ ਸਿਰਫ ਇੱਕ ਸ਼ੁਰੂਆਤ ਹੈ। ਸਰਕਾਰ 'ਭਾਰਤਮਾਲਾ ਪਰਿਯੋਜਨਾ' ਤਹਿਤ ਹਾਈਵੇ ਨੈੱਟਵਰਕ ਦਾ ਤੇਜ਼ੀ ਨਾਲ ਵਿਸਤਾਰ ਕਰ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ।
This pilot project on NH-48 is the first of many. This launch comes as India continues to expand its highway network rapidly under the Bharatmala Pariyojana.
NHAI ਅਤੇ IHMCL ਨੇ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਹੀ ਹਰਿਆਣਾ, ਰਾਜਸਥਾਨ, ਦਿੱਲੀ, ਤਾਮਿਲਨਾਡੂ, ਆਂਧਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਦੇਸ਼ ਅਤੇ ਮਹਾਰਾਸ਼ਟਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਨਵੇਂ MLFF ਪਲਾਜ਼ਿਆਂ ਲਈ ਠੇਕੇ ਦੇ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਹਨ।
100 ਤੋਂ ਵੱਧ ਹੋਰ ਪਲਾਜ਼ਿਆਂ ਲਈ ਬੋਲੀਆਂ (Bids) ਪ੍ਰਕਿਰਿਆ ਅਧੀਨ ਹਨ।
ਸਰਕਾਰ ਦਾ ਟੀਚਾ ਮਾਰਚ 2029 ਤੱਕ ਸਾਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਮੁੱਖ ਚਾਰ-ਮਾਰਗੀ (Four-lane) ਰਾਸ਼ਟਰੀ ਰਾਜਮਾਰਗਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਐਕਸਪ੍ਰੈਸਵੇਅ 'ਤੇ MLFF ਨੂੰ ਲਾਗੂ ਕਰਨਾ ਹੈ।
NHAI and IHMCL have awarded contracts for multiple additional plazas in Haryana, Rajasthan, Delhi, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, and Maharashtra.
Bids for over 100 more plazas are currently in process.
The government aims to implement MLFF across all major four-lane and above national highways and expressways by March 2029.
